TYPES OF MASSAGE

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a goal-oriented massage used for areas acute and/or chronic pain due to tightness in the fascia or connective tissue.  It rebalances the muscles and connective tissue by using medium to deep pressure with long stretching strokes and manipulation of the muscles.  This releases the “glued down” areas resulting in improved function with greater movement and ease.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is for both the professional and amateur athlete.  It focuses on promoting flexibility, increasing range of motion, and decreasing lactic acid build-up in the involved muscles.  These dynamic sessions can help the athlete prepare for and recover from training or events and help to maintain optimal conditioning.

Postural Massage

Postural Massage uses a combination of techniques to rebalance the body.  The ultimate objective is to work on the whole body, releasing fascia and muscle restriction in all areas.

Pregnancy Massage

A crucial therapy for all expecting moms to assist with the amazing changes the body goes through during this exciting time.  Sometimes these changes can be painful and uncomfortable – aching neck, shoulders, lower back, legs, or feet.  This type of massage will ensure comfort at all stages of pregnancy.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is used for reducing muscle tension and overall body stress, with the main goal being to relax the mind and body.  This technique utilizes light to medium pressure with long sweeping strokes, kneading and gliding over the superficial layers of muscle tissue.  Swedish massage increases vascular circulation, facilitates the release of built-up toxins in tissue, and encourages increased joint mobility and range of motion.

Geriatric Massage

Geriatric Massage is a very specific style of massage.  While very light in pressure, it has profound effects for the body.  The techniques used vary depending on the needs of the client, however all techniques have the general purpose of improving circulation, range of motion, relieving touch deprivation, and evoking the relaxation response.  Some application of this style of massage can be utilized for clients affected by stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and many other age-related illnesses.
